Technical: choosing a base layer, T-shirt or shorts

Technical is Dock Rats’ training range. The products have different fabrics and fits, so your choice depends on whether you want a close layer or more room.

Close-fitting base layers

The long-sleeved base layer is 82% polyester and 18% elastane. The short-sleeved model is 88% recycled polyester and 12% elastane. Both weigh 230 g/m². Use each model’s measurements: the size letter alone is not enough to compare them.

A lighter alternative

The SS26 Heavy Lifting T-shirt uses 100% polyester mesh at 140 g/m², with raglan sleeves and a relaxed fit. Technical Shorts are 91% recycled polyester and 9% spandex at 174 g/m².

Start with the fit

For a top close around the body, start with a base layer. If you prefer more room, Heavy Lifting has a relaxed cut. These are different preferences, so the word Technical alone cannot decide the choice.

Take a top with a similar cut and compare it with the flat garment measurements. A very wide cotton tee is a less useful reference for a close base layer than a stretch training top.

What does g/m² mean?

G/m² means grams per square metre of fabric. It helps compare fabric weight but does not describe every property. A 230 g/m² base layer and a 140 g/m² mesh T-shirt also differ in fibre blend, knit and cut. Fabric weight alone cannot decide which you prefer for training.
