We are Johan and Malthe from Vejle, Denmark. We met at Kano- og Kajakklubben Vejle Å, our local canoe and kayak club. That is where the idea for Dock Rats began: kayaking needed a clothing brand with an identity of its own.
It started at the club
Kayaking has its own community and its own way of bringing people together. Yet much of the clothing we saw came from other sports. We wanted a brand that started with our sport and the people who belong to it.
So we decided to create Dock Rats: a sportswear and streetwear brand rooted in sprint kayaking, with room for training and for life around the club.
The less conventional side of kayaking
We wanted Dock Rats to be more than clothing. It should be a culture you could buy into and feel part of. The slightly offbeat, original approach we associate with kayaking belongs in the brand too.
We want character and designs that dare to look different. Rats, graphics and humour are part of that expression. You do not have to look like everyone else to belong.
Training kit and everyday clothing
Our range includes technical training layers, everyday T-shirts and hoodies, caps and accessories. Essentials, Technical and our seasonal collections explore different sides of the same idea: clothing connected to the community we come from.
We also offer club shops where members can order clothing with their club’s own identity. Each club can have its own expression within the Dock Rats world.
Dock Rats is our take on a clothing brand for kayaking’s own culture. It began in Vejle, with the two of us and a shared idea.
